Launch of the Choosing Wisely Québec Network
The QMA is pleased to announce that Québec now has its own Choosing Wisely network. After participating in the French component of the national Choosing Wisely Canada (CWC) campaign since 2014, the QMA was entrusted with managing a regional network for Québec in order to develop new initiatives at the local level.
Choosing Wisely Québec aims to help clinicians and patients engage in conversations about unnecessary tests, treatments and procedures and make smart and effective choices to ensure high-quality care. CWC has established regional networks in the provinces to encourage and accelerate change at the local level.
The Choosing Wisely Québec network has several objectives, namely:
- Bring together partners to establish an action plan that will lead to sustainable change regarding unnecessary tests and procedures.
- Support local initiatives in Québec.
- Educate and raise awareness about overuse and overdiagnosis among patients and health care professionals.
- Collaborate with the various regional networks in other provinces and the Choosing Wisely Canada campaign to share knowledge and best practices.
If you wish to learn more about the issues of overdiagnosis, you can register here for one of the Practicing Wisely training session given by the QMA in collaboration with the Québec College of Family Physicians (the next one is on August 20, 2017, in Québec City).
