Choosing Wisely Québec: a clear success
The Choosing Wisely campaigns, including Choosing Wisely Québec, garnered much attention during the conference. This concrete prevention initiative aimed at reducing unnecessary tests and treatments was praised and highlighted by the Minister of Health and Social Services, Gaétan Barrette, in his opening address. The Chair of Choosing Wisely Canada (CWC), Dr. Wendy Levinson, gave a well-received talk on the strategies for making this kind of campaign a success. She invited Canadian physicians to use the 250 recommendations that can be found at the Choosing Wisely Canada site or at Choisir avec soin.
Karen Born from CWC and two students presented the Students and Trainees Advocating for Resource Stewardship (STARS) campaign in a workshop. The STARS program seeks to change the culture of medical education by addressing the behaviours that can lead to unnecessary care, starting in the very first year of training of future physicians.
