| Dr. Ruth Vander Stelt Takes Over as President of the Quebec Medical Association |
Montréal, April 18, 2011 – The Quebec Medical Association (QMA) closed its annual convention, entitled Transform medical practice… or transform the system?, by designating its new President, Dr. Ruth Vander Stelt. In her acceptance speech, Dr. Vander Stelt addressed the issue of access to family medicine, and emphasized the importance of integrating technology into the practice of medicine.
"One of the most disturbing developments is the difficulty that people are having finding a family doctor. This is an issue that must be addressed, in particular by focusing more on access to a health care team, not only a family doctor," pointed out Dr. Vander Stelt. "Better access to a technological platform and smoother referrals to specialists must be part of the improvements in primary care."

| MYTHS AND REALITIES OF DUAL MEDICAL PRACTICING |
The QMA proposes a debate on this major issue of our health system. Is the
possibility for doctors to practice in both the private and the public sector
a panacea or a threat?
The Quebec Medical Association invites all parties interested in the health
system to participate in a conference and debate on dual medical practicing.
During the event, international experts will be presenting their countries
experience with dual medical practicing and discuss its impacts on the access
to medical services and on the equilibrium of medical resources between
the public and private sectors. The debate on dual medical practicing will
broaden your understanding of this issue by providing you with information
on research results and giving you a chance to discuss the experiences and
data with experts.
The event will take place on October 24th 2008, at the Montreal Loews
Hotel Vogue from 9 AM to 4 PM.
Mark your calendars; subscriptions will be limited to 100!
